Makr Shakr is a Turin company that builds robotic bartenders and baristas. It grew out of research at the MIT Senseable City Lab led by Carlo Ratti, where the first prototype debuted at Milan Design Week in 2013, and launched as a startup in 2017. Its robotic arms shake, stir and muddle cocktails ordered from a mobile app for luxury venues, bars, nightclubs, entertainment centers and cruise ships. The range covers Toni for upscale locations, Veloce for busy dance floors, and Compatto, which also makes hot and cold coffee, for cutting queues where demand peaks.
