How to choose a commercial robot
Before you shortlist anything, lock down four numbers: budget, runtime, payload, and where it has to operate. Everything else follows from those.
Robotics buyers tend to over-index on the spec sheet and under-index on the deployment environment. A 4-hour battery only matters if you actually need 4 hours uninterrupted, most shift patterns include natural docking windows. Likewise, peak payload is rarely the constraint; it's the duty cycle at 70% load that breaks cheaper units.

The second mistake is treating autonomy as binary. Most commercial robots ship somewhere on a spectrum between teleoperation and full autonomy, and the right point on that spectrum depends on your tolerance for edge cases. A warehouse with predictable aisles can run fully autonomous; a hospital corridor or a city sidewalk needs human-in-the-loop fallback for years to come.
Finally, check integration before you check capability. A robot that won't talk to your WMS, ERP, or fleet manager will sit in the corner. Look for ROS2, REST APIs, and certified integrations with whatever you already run. The cheapest robot to buy is rarely the cheapest robot to operate.
